Unique Location

We are located 15km from Lisbon and are less than 6km from the historic town of Sintra so are centrally placed for visits to the Lisbon Peninsular, as well as the surrounding areas. Travelling into Lisbon is easy since we are a 10 minute walk from Meleças station, from where you can take a 30 minute train ride into Lisbon on weekdays (tickets are €1.85 each way for adults– 2016 prices); some parts of Lisbon may involve a change of train but this is not complicated. Trains run every 15 minutes through rush hours and every hour outside of these. At weekends, the trains run generally every hour. During weekdays, we would recommend travelling to Lisbon by train rather than by car because of traffic and parking problems in the city. You can also catch a train to Sintra from Meleças, changing at Caçem or direct from Rio de Mouro, and from Meleças to Queluz Palace or up to Obidos and Mafra which are all well worth a visit.

Lisbon airport is 22km away (a 20 minute journey without traffic, but longer in the rush hour) and you can get to the Quinta either with a 5 minute Metro ride (3 stops) to Oriente Station and a train ride direct to Rio do Mouro Station (where we will meet you if you call us with the time of the train you are on) or we can arrange for you to be met by a taxi at the airport which would cost around 30 euros (subject to traffic) plus parking and tip, or you can travel by car. We would not recommend you taking a taxi from the Airport rank as Lisbon taxi drivers are notorious for not knowing anywhere outside Lisbon so get lost and then charge you for it!

We are a 30 minute drive away from many fantastic beaches too, many of which can be reached by public transport. We are centrally and conveniently located to visit many places of interest and are not located actually in a 'tourist location' and, as such, our guests are able to return to a more relaxed and friendly Portuguese lifestyle where traditional restaurants are both good and inexpensive.

Directions

Coming from Lisbon Airport or City Centre

Ask for directions from your Car Hire Company to get onto the 2nd Circular (South) which runs passed the Airport.

Take the 2nd Circular (South) which naturally runs onto the IC19 towards Sintra and leave at Exit 6 signposted CREL/A9 (14kms - 9 miles, from the Airport - not to be confused with Exit 6 on the 2nd Circular near the Airport). Look out for a big blue motorway sign which doesn't have the Exit number 6 on it (well this is Portugal) and watch for the turn off because it is directly after Exit 5 to Queluz.

Follow the signs for the turning off the slip road to the A9 Norte CREL which is easy to miss as it is immediately after you have left the IC19 - if you miss the turning, it will take you back onto the IC19 in which case you will need to come off at the next junction 7 and double back to junction 6.

Follow the signs for the A9 Norte. Pass through the tolls and take a ticket, making sure you don't go through the lanes marked 'Via Verde' unless you have a transponder.

2kms after the tolls, take the first Exit 2A signposted A16 Sintra and pass through the tolls, again watching out for the 'Via Verde'. Hand your ticket in and the toll should be just under a Euro (they give change).

4kms after the tolls, take Exit 11 signposted M544 Telhal and then take the first exit right at the roundabout signposted Algueirão.

In ½ km, you will come to a crossroads. Proceed over the main road straight ahead (you may need to give way to any vehicles coming the other way as this is a narrow road).

After 100m,there is a Colégio on the right; turn left opposite this and proceed down the lane which is 2 way but very narrow with walls either side and a few passing places.

After ½ km, there is a right turn; ignore this and continue straight on past this - be careful as this turn has right of way. The road will turn a sharp left and drop down the hill where you will see a left turn signposted Quinta do Scoto.

Stop at the green post on the left opposite the main gate and enter the access code into the digital pad (we will email this to you when we confirm your booking) - this can be done from the driver's side without getting out of the car. The gates will open after you have entered the last code number. Proceed to the parking area and walk up to the Entrada (Reception) in the Manor House.

Coming from the North via Mafra

Take the N9 South which runs from Mafra to Sintra.

Look out for a right turn signposted Sintra and take this. At the end of the dual carriageway, go straight over the roundabout and follow the road for 1km until you reach a left turn signposted Algueirão and Vale de Lobo, immediately past 'Dicarmo', a huge orange and blue furniture store on the left and where the dual carriageway starts.

Take this turning onto Rua da Associação and follow the road (N250-1) for 3km until you get to the new motorway.

Take the 2nd exit at the first roundabout and the 1st exit on the next roundabout signposted Lisbon A16. Go through the tolls and take Exit 11 (the 1st exit after the tolls), signposted M544 Telhal and then take the first exit right at the roundabout signposted Algueirão.

Coming from the North via the CREL/A9

Take the CREL/A9 heading Sul (South), following the signs towards the IC19 and Cascais.

Take Exit 2A signposted A16 to Sintra (don't get confused with the IC16 to Belas which is the junction just before).

After 4kms, take Exit 11 signposted M544 Telhal and then take the first exit right at the roundabout signposted Algueirão.
